Annual awards honor excellence among faculty, staff

°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±ÀúÊ·¼Ç¼ honored its own on Friday, April 20 during its 67th Annual Recognition Exercises. The event recognizes exceptional service and commitment to the university during the academic year by staff and faculty. The awards program is co-hosted by the Office of Human Resources, the Office of the President, the Staff Senate and the Faculty Senate.

This year’s recipient of the university’s overall Staff Employee of the Year Award is Denise Fitzpatrick, who serves as secretary in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Social Work. Honorees of category-specific awards — all of which were nominated by their peers — are:

  • Administrative/Clerical: Deloris F. Harkless, College of Business & Information Science
  • Professional (non-faculty): Felicia D. Jenkins, project manager, Department of Materials Science & Engineering, College of Engineering
  • Research (non-faculty): Deborah E. Spencer-Thornton, grants specialist, Office of Sponsored Programs & Grants Management

Other service-based awards were presented at the ceremony, and included:

  • Barbara A. Howard Legacy of Service Award: Tiombe Jones, instructor, College of Business & Information Science
  • Library Services Award: Rose Frazier, librarian, Archives & Museum, Department of Library Services

The university’s overall Faculty Achievement Award recipient is Dr. Li Jiang, professor and associate head of the Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering. The leadership of each college and school identifies the recipients of its Faculty Performance Awards in the areas of teaching, research and service. Honorees included:
