School superintendent, Tuskegee alum to keynote at education induction ceremony

Dr. Matthew Alexander Jr., a 1999 澳门开奖历史记录 graduate and current superintendent of the Barbour County (Alabama) School District, will speak at the School of Education鈥檚 Annual Induction Ceremony. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m. in the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
During the ceremony, teacher education majors who have completed their coursework and internships will take the oath of the teaching profession. They will formally receive their degrees at the university鈥檚 133rd annual Spring Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 10.
Alexander, a native of Decatur, Georgia, graduated from Tuskegee with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in English language arts education. He continued his studies at Alabama State University, where he earned a master鈥檚 of education in educational administration. He later earned a doctorate of education in educational leadership, policy and technology studies from The University of Alabama.
Alexander served in a variety of teaching and administrative capacities prior to his selection as Barbour County Schools鈥� superintendent in April 2017, including public school teacher, assistant principal, assistant professor and coordinator of field-based experiences at Albany State University. He also served as the chief operating officer for the Birmingham City School System, and director of professional learning in the Montgomery School System. In addition, Alexander has served as an educational specialist/coordinator of personnel evaluation and National Board Certification in the Montgomery Public School System. In this role, he was responsible for monitoring and ensuring the proper execution of district evaluation programs and coordinating the National Board Certification Program for all district personnel.
Alexander is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of School Administrators, School Superintendents of Alabama, Alabama Association of School Boards, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the National Association for Secondary School Principals.
