With more than 900 students participating in the 2020-2021 Student Government Association general election, 澳门开奖历史记录 welcomes a new student administration. Last week, five executive branch members were selected to carry out the voice for students at the university.

Cedric Davis, a senior from Montgomery, Alabama, majoring in architecture, was elected to serve as SGA president for the 2020-2021 academic year. He is completing his term as SGA鈥檚 treasurer and recently held the position of sophomore class vice president. His other campus involvement includes membership in the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Alabama club; the National Organization of Minority Architects; and Mister 澳门开奖历史记录鈥檚 Underclassmen Leadership Academy.

Davis campaigned with the platform 鈥淐ontrol + Alt + Delete鈥 and the concept that students can take control of their environments.

鈥淚 know that if we alter the culture of a non-inclusive campus and put our best efforts forth as students, we can delete the problems we commonly face,鈥 he explained. 鈥淎s president, I plan to encourage campus involvement and unite students to bring about change to every-day inconveniences that are commonly expressed and experienced.鈥

Daniel Ryan, a junior communications major, will lead as SGA鈥檚 vice president. The Augusta, Georgia, native currently is the public relations co-chair for the sophomore class SGA. He is also a member of various university clubs and committees, including the Bioethics Honors Program, Pre-Alumni Council, Palm to Palm, Underclassmen Leadership Academy, and LET US Academy. Ryan says his passion for global affairs, human rights, pop culture and advocating for more inclusive approaches to policy development is what influences him to pursue a career in political affairs or journalism following graduation.

Nina Hylton of Mount Vernon, New York, will serve as SGA鈥檚 judicial advisor. The senior political science major hopes to tackle the root of the issues that most commonly result in judicial action, while empowering students to become better informed of Tuskegee鈥檚 policies and student rights. A member of Tuskegee鈥檚 softball team, she has also served as president of the Bioethics Honors Programand as a member of the President鈥檚 Men and Women Leadership Program, Title IX Student Committee, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Pi Sigma Alpha (political science honors society) and the Pre-Law Society.

Serving as SGA鈥檚 events coordinator will be Jaylen Washington, a senior from Inglewood, California, double-majoring in business and sales and marketing. Washington is a member of the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., and he currently serves as Mister Junior 2019-2020. Upon graduation, Washington plans to attend law school to purse entertainment law, he also aspires to one day open his own record label.

Lauryn Johnson, a native of Montgomery, Alabama, will serve as treasurer. The junior information technology major seeks to become an advocate for students鈥 talents and entrepreneurship while managing SGA鈥檚 annual budget. Johnson鈥檚 previous student involvement includes holding the title of freshman class treasurer and sophomore class president. After graduation, she plans to become a computer forensics analyst and graphic designer.

Tuskegee鈥檚 Student Government Association 鈥 a program that falls administratively under the Office of Student Affairs 鈥 advocates on behalf of students鈥 needs, rights and welfare. It advances and provides the means for responsible student participation in campus affairs that promote the university鈥檚 principles of knowledge, leadership and service. In addition to elected officers, SGA provides students with leadership and service opportunities through appointments as committee chairs and committee members.
