Veganism begins with cutting down on meat and dairy. Dairy forms an integral part of our lives, considering the amount of milk and milk products we consume. Although dairy comes with its benefits, we don’t really need it in our diets – instead, we can look for non-dairy milk alternatives.

What is the healthiest non-dairy milk alternative. This is one of the most asked questions. Well, almost all the non-dairy milk options offer just as healthy and nutritious. Wondering if non-dairy milk is better for you? Well, we have listed down a range of reasons that will take away all your doubts. Read ahead to find out more about the pros of introducing unsweetened non-dairy milk in your diet:

Weight Loss

Cutting down on dairy is something we need to consider, especially if we are on a weight loss journey. Whole milk contains saturated fat, which eventually builds up in our bodies as unhealthy cholesterol. Replacing whole milk products with nut milk would help the body burn fat faster, thus aiding in weight loss.

Acne-Free Skin

Acne is one of the most common effects of lactose intolerance, and so many people are not even aware of this fact. When we approach a skin specialist, one of the first things they advise us to do is quit dairy for a certain period. And more than often, the underlying cause behind the continuous breakouts happens to be dairy! Wondering what it is in dairy that results in unhealthy skin? The reasons are many – while some say it’s because of the hormones in milk, the others attribute it to the spike in blood sugar and insulin due to lactose consumption.

Aids in Digestion

Lactose intolerance causes indigestion, and yet again, people across the world are not aware of this fact. Consumption of dairy often leads to bloating and cramped stomachs. If left untreated, these symptoms eventually lead to more severe ailments such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. To get rid of all the discomfort and pain that these ailments bring in, all we have to do is quit consuming dairy.

A dairy diet is low in fiber, which means if we keep consuming lots of milk and other dairy products, we will undoubtedly end up with constipation. Now that’s another reason to steer clear from dairy!

Balance in Hormones

Cows are often issued growth hormones and antibiotics so that they can produce more milk. Inadvertently, these hormones and antibiotics end up in our system, wreaking havoc with our hormone system. If we do not check our milk consumption well in time, we may end up with antibiotic-resistant diseases in the long run. To have a body with a balanced hormone system, we need to cut down or totally quit dairy and dairy products.

Summing up

Now that we know the harmful effects of dairy on our bodies and the benefits of vegan milk substitutes, let’s incorporate it in our diet. To get started, you can use these non-dairy milk-based recipes:
