Instead, sticking to our usual routines – waking up early, eating healthy and exercising is super important. This would help the body adapt better to the natural rhythms.
To wake up early, well within time, we need to hit the sack early. It’s easier to fall asleep during winters, considering it gets dark quickly. Keeping aside gadgets and setting a proper sleep routine would help fall asleep faster. With a sound, disturbance-free sleep through the night, you wake up fresh. Our bodies get ample time to rejuvenate and refresh, giving a boost to the cold weather immune system as well.
Watch the Gut Health
A healthy gut equals a healthy immune system. This is one of the main reasons why we need to focus on the health of our guts. Including probiotic foods in our meals is a great way to enhance the health of your gut. Some of these foods are non-dairy yoghurts, kombucha and sauerkraut. These are easy to include in our meals and are excellent probiotic foods.
We don’t really feel thirsty during winters, but that does not mean that our body is not craving water. Sipping on water, homemade juices, and herbal teas throughout the day would help keep your body well hydrated. This would also help flush out all toxins while reducing inflammation in the body.
Including immunity boosters in our meals is a great way to keep illnesses at bay. These foods include citrus fruits, red bell peppers, broccoli, ginger, garlic, spinach, almonds, and healthy seeds. We can cook up these ingredients in different ways and prepare amazing winter recipes. Soups are a great way to get the most of these ingredients in the winter months.
Take Care in Case of any Infections
Despite all the due care, if we do end up falling for a cold, it’s important to take care right when the early signs begin to show. For nasal congestion, you can use a humidifier to help clear your sinuses. For throat irritation, you can prepare herbal teas like thyme which has antiviral properties, and consume them warm with a dash of lemon juice, so that the throat feels at ease. Taking a hot shower works wonders too – that’s something we avoid when we fall ill, but it actually works to help us get well soon.
