Your Fitness Journey starts here with Teresa Cacho!

When they ask me what brought me into my fitness journey, I usually answer that I’ve seen the difference that living a healthy lifestyle can make. I genuinely believe that by looking after your health, body, and wellbeing, you can feel confident, perform at your best in any circumstance of life and learn the discipline of consistency that can be applied to every daily challenge. I’m not necessarily strict with my habits, but I like to prioritize sleep, assign and commit to weekly workouts, and spend time with my loved ones.

Self-care is so important, not only physically but mentally. As Eckart Tolle says, ‘In essence, you are neither inferior nor superior to anyone. “True self-esteem and true humility arise out of that realization. Self care-esteem and humility are one and the same”. It’s good to put your mental, physical, and emotional needs first to give others the best of oneself.

Why did I became an instructor?

How did my fitness journey start? There isn’t a particular person who inspired me to begin my career in fitness. It all happened gradually. When I was younger, I didn’t have a strong drive towards exercising, I did enjoy it, but it was not a priority. It was in my late teens and just before college that my curiosity for group exercise classes started to grow. I signed up in a local gym back in my hometown and started to love the traditional aerobics classes. That led to trying a wider variety of styles, and in my mid-20s, I discovered how much I loved helping people become happier while getting healthier.

I have never looked back since; for me, it was a favorable life-changing decision. When I moved to New York back in 2009, I started losing some consistency, but I would still use my bicycle to travel around the city, and I remained active in one way or other. Once I settled down, I started picking back up my passion for fitness group classes. I had a very inspiring instructor that I would always come back to, and she is the main reason I became an instructor in New York 7 years ago as she pushed me to do so. At the same time, I was terrified of public speaking, so this also seemed the perfect opportunity to face some of my fears and get better at them.

What can you expect from me?

Now my mission is what inspires me. I have a dream to end confusion within the health and fitness industry. I want all people to understand their bodies, have a place to learn about fitness and health, and feel confident and happy.

New York gyms serve a diverse population too and I like that. I’m particularly interested in building community, motivate people, and make them feel that they have a second family who will always be there for each other. I love seeing individuals making that leap, crossing the boundary, learn good techniques that will give them the foundation to reach their goals and have fun while doing so.

In the following months, I’ll be covering some of the most popular topics that I came across while teaching and the questions that I most often get asked. But I’ll also share with you my tricks to stay motivated, build a healthy routine and succeed in your goals.

So, where to start?

Consistency: To me, this is the holy grail and the key to it all. It is the essential element at the pyramid base and the one that will propel you to a successful outcome.
Could you do a 30-minute walk two times per week? Perhaps this sounds basic, but building new patterns and breaking old ones is the most critical pattern of all. Once you have identified your goals and chose an achievable one that you can stick to in the long run, it is essential to act according to your plan in every context as you build your new behavioral patterns. It’s not a problem if you miss that rep; what’s important is to get back to it. Find that momentum, and you’ll conquer the summit. Let’s start your fitness journey!
