One of the things I’ve been missing the most during this quarantine is to keep discovering the City. So Today I came with The best Brooklyn Healthy Vegan restaurant.
As you know, I was determined to visit new neighborhoods and find unique places to share with you, fellow Healthy Foodies. Something I will continue to do when all this is over, I promise!
In the meanwhile, I would love to talk to you about one of my favorite places in Brooklyn.
The location couldn’t be better. An old Polish quarter that is reinventing itself in the new vegan-friendly place-to-be. This is creating a very peculiar landscape, as you can find a storefront exposing all different types of sausages next to a vegan bakery. Really unique!
In consequence, there are multiple vegan restaurants, bakeries, pizzerias, and even a famous vegan gelateria!
So, the first time I visited Greenpoint, I had no expectations, I had no idea what I was going to find. After a couple of minutes of walking around, I realized that figuring out where to have lunch was going to be really tough!
But then I ran into this vibrant storefront, painted in orange and green, with huge windows and lush tropical vegetation almost making its way out of the glass. Just in front of the main door, a blackboard announced some of the smoothies they had, within them; “Young Thai Coconut Shake,” magical words, it was done, I’m in!
I was amazed by how big the place was. Two big round tables at both bay windows where you could sit at the floor in comfortable and soft cushions. Continuous banks were to share a table with other diners, an extensive buffet, a kombucha drafter, and a bar where to place your order at the end of the space.
Everything in the restaurant emanates tranquility, from the colors to the vegetation, with some decorative details of ethnic nature hanging here and there, all very subtle. The perfect setting for tasting healthy and tasty food in a good company, no matter if you go alone, everyone is really friendly there!
Once again, I was faced with my biggest problem in any good restaurant; what to order when you want to try everything! In my case, given the impossibility of eating the entire menu by myself, although it crossed my mind, to be honest, I decided on the Jungle Burrito. Because I don’t know about you, but jungle and burrito are two concepts, I couldn’t have enough!
It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Unbelievably good, I daresay the best I’ve ever had. I could write a whole new post trying to describe how good it is. But I will only tell you the following; Black beans, Mexican rice, seitan, pico de gallo, guacamole, vegan cheese, and mixed greens layered in a flour tortilla, served with guacamole and vegan sour cream. How good is that? I couldn’t resist either!
Sadly, after eating every single grain of rice of my gigantic Burrito I could not take one more bite, so I was left without trying any of their desserts, I am still crying, since I thought I would return in no time, but then, Corona!
But to really understand it, you will have to visit this wonderful oasis in the heart of Brooklyn. The Jungle Cafe.
By the way, if you are lucky enough to live in the neighborhood, they deliver! Too bad for me that they don’t get this far! If not please note as The best Brooklyn Healthy Vegan restaurant.
