It is finally August, and as always with the new month, we want to bring you the latest news that you will find in your local Farmer’s Market.

Summer squash

Yes, its actual name is summer squash. This type of squash got its name because they all have a short storage life. 

There are many different types of summer squash such as:

  • Cousa Squash
  • Pattypan squash
  • Tromboncino
  • Crookneck squash
  • Straight neck squash
  • Zucchini

Maybe most of these are new to you but believe us, they are great, full of Vitamin A, b6 and C, and much more.

Corn

Corn is a great vegetable to add to your summertime shopping list. It will add a bright summery feeling to any dish. Corn is very low in calories and can be served with almost any dish. It is filled with tons of fiber which will help with feeling full and satisfied longer. Corn is also super easy to prepare; it can be grilled, sautéed or steamed, etc.

Belle pepper

Bell peppers are a great addition to your dish it comes in different varieties and flavors and can also be eaten raw. This is why bell peppers are considered to be a fruit, not a vegetable. It is filled with tons of vitamin C and antioxidants, so this is a fruit that you cannot pass up

Figs

You can eat this fruit fresh or dried; either way, they are delicious and super beneficial. They hold a high component of potassium and calcium, which help support strong bone health.

Nectarines/Peaches

These two fruits are very similar; the only difference the Peach has a fuzzy outside of texture, and the nectar is a smoother texture. But if you want a sweet punch, we suggest that you go with the nectar. Both help with iron absorption and will enhance your skin complexion. So, these are two summertime fruits that you do not want to miss out on.

Raspberries

Raspberry is commonly known as the superfruit because it contains numeral beneficial benefits for your mind and body. Higher in fiber, fill with vitamins and minerals, and help with anti-aging effects, raspberries are fruits you should eat daily to maintain a healthy diet. You can get them frozen year-round, but they are at their best in the summertime fresh.
