Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)

Overview

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers programs of study leading to the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering, and a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering. Our students also participate in the Ph. D. program in Material Science and Engineering.聽 The programs in the department are led by six (6) faculty members, and we attract outstanding students from the US and abroad. Many of our students are supported through scholarships, fellowships, research assistantships, and teaching assistantships. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredits the undergraduate program in Electrical Engineering, and the graduate program is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.聽

Mission

The mission of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is to prepare students to have strong technical, scientific, and professional skills and qualities with emphasis on design and commitment to life-long learning, basic and applied research, and public service.聽 The Department also seeks to support faculty members to develop strong pedagogical and research skills to enhance the transfer of knowledge to students.

Electrical Engineering Program Educational Objectives

The educational objectives of the electrical engineering department are derived to support the mission statements of the department, the College of Engineering, and the university.聽 The Electrical Engineering Program聽Educational Objectives are as follows:

  1. Successful and ethical聽practitioners in Electrical Engineering or related fields in industry, private practice, and government.
  2. Lifelong learners that pursue graduate studies or engage in continuing education endeavors in engineering or related disciplines.
  3. Aspiring inclusive leaders that are engaged in professional and leadership development by participating in structured professional and community service activities.

Computer Engineering Program Educational Objectives

The educational objectives of the computer engineering department are derived to support the mission statements of the department, the College of Engineering, and the university.聽 The Computer Engineering Program聽Educational Objectives are as follows:

  2. Lifelong learners that pursue graduate studies or engage in continuing education endeavors in engineering or related disciplines.
